Cliffhangers kill me, especially if the next book is not out or due to come out soon. I’ve started avoiding series if they aren’t complete. Fourth Wing? After Iron Flame, I’m tapping out for a bit. I’m not started Onyx Storm just to wait another year. And then another year for the next book – it’s a 5 book series! I just don’t have that sort of patience and attention span and sometimes it just seems like too much effort to keep going just to stop again and again. Now, interconnected series I can still do, no problem. I’m happy to anticipate the next standalone and these series are often the most satisfying. I’m immersed in the world and yet can have everything wrapped up, no muss no fuss and I’m not left hanging.
I guess in a way it’s a compliment that I’ve liked the story enough to have become invested into the outcome. So now, I check before starting that first book. If it’s not a complete series? I just add it to my ever growing TBR list!
